  • Bamboo Train

    BATTAMBANG
Bamboo_TrainIs part Khmer ingenuity, part Khmer necessity. It is a small transportation, like ox cart, small car…. But it has its peculiarities: it’s made from bamboo, and runs on the railway, moved by engine. It’s not only used for transporting merchandises but also people. The bamboo train reaches about 40km/h (25mph), with the track just a couple of inches below the passengers.
  • Circus

    BATTAMBANG
CirqueYes, Battambang has got a circus. In 1992, many refugees came back home. The young orphans are now young adults, and together with their teachers they decide to do something to keep the mutual help spirit alive, the same that helped them to survive along the years in the camps in Thailand. The Phare Ponleu Selpak NGO now gives Cambodian children from poor and disabled families the opportunity to “have access to culture via different artistic activities” including music, drawing drama, dancing and circus. See traditional Cambodian circus acts daily beginning at 7:00PM or 8:00PM.

  • Battambang

    BATTAMBANG
BattambangSecond largest city of Cambodia, Battambang is a very pleasant town, well shaped and preserved. Many colonial houses still flank Sangkor River. Wat Kdol pagoda is particularly interesting, for mixing clasical Khmer architecture with colonial flavour and unusual scultptures. Known as the Rice Bowl of Cambodia the province has a strong agricultural economy with a great production of rice, pineapple, sesame, grapefruit, oil palm and saffron. Battambang was turned into a site of torture, killings, and starvation during Khmer Rouges.
